I can relate with your thoughts. I have struggled with two opposing thoughts where one says that there is nothing original because we all are influenced by our surroundings, and the other says we can be original because our thoughts are as different as us.
And my inclination is more towards the second one. The only reason is our uniqueness as humans, the ability to look at things in our own ways and express.
As you said, we can look at it as automation making things easier and faster(which is the pitch) but it is also represents acute surveillance and lots of uncredited work/data and as a society we are growing dependent on its support, which to me is apocalyptic.
